History

In September 2007, the City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz, and University of California at Santa Cruz signed the Climate Action Compact, an agreement signifying their commitment to collaborative leadership on climate change and green economic development. Climate Action Compact partners formed a committee of staff representatives from each partner entity, along with additional members from the Santa Cruz County Commission on the Environment, and met regularly to develop cooperative projects and climate change initiatives.

In 2011, the Climate Action Compact expanded to encompass the tri-county region, and government agencies, educational institutions, private businesses, and non-profit organizations were invited to officially join the network and commit to working collectively to address the causes and effects of climate change. The Climate Action Compact now includes partners from across the Monterey Bay Region, and new partners are in the process of joining.
